TESTIMONIALS

Snow country home was a goal achieved

The steel-framed house that Michael and his wife Faye built at Oberon in the high country close to the main divide is a true match for heavy snow and high winds typical in that part of New South Wales.

The couple chose the four bedroom Elizabeth, which gives them plenty of room for their adult children, nieces, nephews and other visitors when they come to stay. "I was a bit apprehensive when the complete kit arrived, but once we laid it out and started assembling the frame it more or less just fell together," Michael said.

The house was given a snow-bearing roof with a 30° pitch and twice the usual number of CSIRO-tested roof trusses. "The instruction manual is 'The Bible' and is very easy to understand and use, even if you have never built a house before.

"The house is terrific, the best thing we ever did. A goal was set, we achieved it, and enjoyed the process as well. And we have the satisfaction of knowing we did it nearly all ourselves," Michael said.
