Kitchen and colour display at Paal, Emu Plains |
Paal has recently extended its display of kitchen options, appliances and PC items, while introducing a selection of co-ordinated feature tiles that will satisfy the most discerning customers.
Our decorating consultant, Narelle Jarman, will help owner-builders select their home colour schemes, including kitchen and tiles, as well as give advice on fixtures such as lights, door handles and benchtops.
This free service to Paal's customers is to ensure they make the right choice and get the colours and fittings that suit their likes and personality.
"Your home expresses your identity. Colour is an important element of this. It can affect your moods – as well as having a physical influence, such as radiating or absorbing heat," Narelle said.

"People take a risk if they rush into a décor choice without considering all the options. Paint can be redone later, but it's not so easy to change fittings such as tiles or benchtops.
"That's why it's so important to get it right at the beginning of the project."
After making an appointment to see Narelle, she will spend a couple of hours with you discussing the best options for your desired décor. "This works best if people bring in their own ideas, which can then be shaped into an ideal colour scheme for their needs," she said.
One enthusiastic couple, Merril and Rob Nixon, drove from Tamworth and back – 11 hours in total – for a free colour consultation with Narelle.
"It was fabulous – worth every second of the drive. We walked into Paal's display centre and fell in love with the colours and designs," Merril said.
"Narelle laid some colours down on the desk and straightaway she found something we liked. They were just lovely. We didn't alter anything."

The Nixons are building Paal's four bedroom Riverina home on their 10 acre property.
Rob agreed that the consultation was well worth the drive. "We could have looked at colours ourselves up home, but it's not the same as coming here where it's all in front of us.
"It was nice to have someone like Narelle who knows about colours and can put it together for us. We're both very happy with the result," he said.

"Fabulous to know that we achieved it"

A large Paal home, the Castlereagh, built by Tony Haines and Eva Page near Orange. |
Tony Haines and Eva Hage built Paal's largest home, the Castlereagh, finding it a truly satisfying experience and saving themselves money as well.
The couple moved to a 150 acre mixed farm near Orange after Tony retired from a career in information technology in Sydney. They graze cattle, grow hazelnuts and grapes, and make their own wine.
"We looked at a lot of kit home companies before making our choice. Many of the other homes left us unimpressed. Paal seemed to be of higher quality."
They modified their chosen plans by enlarging some living areas and fitting a double door at the main entrance.
Tony built the house with ongoing help from Eva and his 72-year-old father. Tradespeople, including a plumber, electrician, plasterer and concreter, were employed selectively. The plumber laid the roofing sheets.
"I'm a first-time homebuilder, but the experience turned out to be absolutely fine. It was a case of learning as you go. On a few occasions, we called Paal with questions, although we might have been able to nut things out for ourselves," he said.
"I found you don't have to be an extremely practical person in order to build your own Paal home, so long as you follow the instruction manual."
Among the approving reactions of neighbours was that "it's a bloody big house", although as Tony points out, putting a smaller home on the farm wouldn't have made sense.
Saving money by building it themselves was just as important as the satisfaction they enjoyed.

"For example, we were given a tradesman's quote of $39,000 in labour to fit the aerated concrete wall cladding, but we did it ourselves in two weeks, which was a huge saving." An Open House held upon completion was attended by about 70 couples. According to Tony, the response was very positive and people were impressed with the completed house.
"It's fabulous to know that we achieved it. I would definitely recommend the experience to other people."
